 Muree Incident

The tragedy of Murree has never happened in the history of the country. People from all walks of life including people across the country are depressed. This tragedy has raised many questions. Thousands of tourists, including women and children, are still stranded. The government has declared Murree a disaster area and launched relief operations, but at the same time there have been reports of people still stubbornly dying to watch the snowfall and several incidents of clashes with police. Have happened

Muree Tragedy

Just last week, the Meteorological Department had forecast a blizzard in Murree. However, due to school holidays, a large number of tourists from all over the country flocked to Murree and with each passing hour, the number of tourists in Murree increased. It may be recalled that the administration and the government did not take any steps to prevent the people from dying.

On January 5, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Twitter described the entry of 100,000 vehicles in Murree as good news, saying, “About 100,000 vehicles have entered Murree. This increase in tourism reflects the increase in the prosperity and income of the common man. This year, the 100 largest companies have made a profit of Rs 929 billion. All the major media groups are at 33 to 40 per cent profit.

It may be recalled that according to the local administration, only 4,000 vehicles can be parked in Murree. When such a large number of vehicles arrived in Murree during the snowy season, the result was obvious. It should be noted that all traffic of Galyat and Muzaffarabad also passes through Murree.

Muree Tragedy

The heavy snowfall that started after the Friday prayers turned into a blizzard and this storm took many lives. According to local residents, they have never seen such a severe blizzard before.

By the time the administration found out the seriousness of the matter, it was too late and according to the toll administration, 130,000 vehicles had entered the area. As the snowfall increased, many trees fell on moving vehicles and the wheel stopped. There was a traffic jam in Jhika street and at eight o'clock in the night there was no electricity. Jhika Gali in Murree is the crossroads through which vehicles heading towards Kashmir also pass and there is also a road leading to Bhurban and Nathia Gali.

Heavy snowfall was also reported on the narrow road from Jhika Gali to Kaldana and vehicles were also affected. And that's where most of the casualties came from. Due to the traffic jam, the snow removal machines could not clear the road and people were forced to spend the night in their vehicles in severe weather. During this time many people turned on the heaters in the vehicles and closed the windows to avoid the blizzard but this caused lack of oxygen and caused many deaths.

The locals are also facing severe difficulties and due to road closures, not only the supply of food and medicine is cut off but also the patients cannot be taken to the hospitals.

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that "Prime Minister Imran Khan has instructed the Punjab Chief Minister to reach Murree and he has left for Murree." Addressing a news conference in Lahore along with Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood, he said that the expressway has been cleared. People are being evacuated.

"In less than 48 hours, millions of tourists flocked to these areas," he said. Problems arose with more people coming in less time. What if five thousand people come to someone's house? ' "There is a lot of rush in all the upper areas at the moment and there is not much room. For a week now, the administration has been saying don't go to this area. "There has been unusual snowfall in Murree and it has been snowing for 48 hours continuously and now the situation there is improving."

To a question, the Federal Minister of Information said, "In the future, we need to manage things better and learn from this issue and move forward." "Unfortunately, this issue is also being politicized. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi should have been in his area Murree and he is sitting in Rawalpindi making accusations.

According to a Meteorological Department spokesman, 32 inches of snow and 63 inches of rain has fallen in Murree.

Heavy snowfall and strong winds of 50 to 75 kmph are expected in Murree and Galyat, which could cause snow to accumulate on trees and cause them to fall. The administration has appealed to people not to go out of their houses during strong winds and those who are in open spaces should take shelter as soon as possible.
